Toy Museum

(in the hall and the classroom!)

I don't think I have ever seen or heard so much excitement from our class! The toys brought in from the Toy Museum were very fascinating. Showcased were a range of toys from dominoes and pull along wooden toys to instruments and lego. Students then used their knowledge to create toys of their own. They needed to include two joining techniques as well as moveable parts. Here is a small sample of what we have seen and created.

Lab on Legs (CSIRO)
The students were able to take part in an afternoon of 'Lab on Legs' last week. They looked at how light travels and how to change the direction of it using mirrors, how light changes colour through kaleidoscopes and they even used mechanical directional meebots! Here are some pictures from the lessons:

Back in my day...

The students have been learning about what history means. Students will understand that the remains of the past are present today and they are of great importance to our local (school) community and require preservation. We have researched the language of time, looked at pictures of the school before and after, acknowledged the Kaurna people through walks in the Kaurna garden, and researched objects of the past and the present.

Sorting out language.

Looking at pictures of the school in its development over the years.

Finalising the order of language of time.

Country Research
The groups who worked with Ms Vozzo in the Library studied different countries and recorded their information in country research books - some even created PowerPoints.

The groups who stayed with Renee looked at London Landmarks and created a mini information book about London and we practised being London guards!

Well done to both groups for finding out so much information.
Here are some examples of their final products...

Year 2 Mini Olympics

Well done to all the students who celebrated our opening ceremony of the Year 2 Olympic Games.
Mr De Tullio officially opened the games, and we heard from each country team their official chants.
Special mention to China who had a very clever and catchy chant. Well done also to Germany who only had 2 people singing on the day, great bravery in front of the rest of the Year 2 groups.
